Instead of adding the usual 2 or 3 remixes of the track we started a “Chinese whisper”. We asked Vidderna to do a remix of the original track and then we asked Niva to do a remix of the Vidderna remix, without hearing the original, last Justus Köhncke remixed the Niva remix without having heard either the original or the Vidderna remix. It all became a musical “Chinese whisper” going from Famijens nearly Portisheadish sound to deep underground German techno from Justus Köhncke. This creates the EP Jona by Edda Magnason. |

It’s Saturday night and you go to bed at 23:00. You set your alarm clock on 05:00. You goes up and have a couple of beers for breakfast and then you’re ready for the floor. You arrive at Bergain, Panorama bar at 06:00 and most likely you will find Johanna Knutsson at the DJ both, maybe she even have her whole label with her and what you have stumbled upon is a Klasse Recordings label party. Johanna is the latest star on the more mellow techno scene of Berlin. The scene that peaks at 07:00 when the party re-starts. |

Contemporary art. Nothing is more fitting to describe “Den svenska tystnaden”. They stand on the shoulders of music history, though never looking back, firmly placed in its presens with the reality literary knocking on the door. Musically they broadens the concept of what a Swedish singing band with drums, bass guitar, electric guitar and voice are supposed to do. Literary they are placing the reality inside small individuals, old individuals and workers doing their 9 to 5 job. No matter where the story takes place, there’s a struggle. There’s always a struggle. “Den svenska tystnaden” are with an almost mental perfection, persistently creating their own unique place in Swedish music. Songs lingering on childhood and the unawareness it implies. Music of afro-shoegazer-pop, still influenced by Neil Young and Kraftwerk. |

”Utsikter från botten” is the third and final thematic EP to be released in 2010 by Den svenska tystnaden. It is released today the 30th of December exactly 4 month after the preceding EP “Långsamma repliker all tid i världen” and exactly 8 month before the first EP in the trilogy “Större avstånd högre spanning”. 2010 is closed and we’re looking forward to an full length album in 2011. Den svenska tystnaden Utsikter från botten 1. Åttahundra barn 2. Arbetsplatser 3. Bengt 4. Dagarna är för många These four songs may be viewed as a series of social reports. In both form and content they resemble indignant letters to the editor of the local newspaper. The lyrics deal with the subject of power and powerlessness, in the workplace and elsewhere. The direct words correspond to the music, which can be described as more or less straightforward pop. Music: MF/MB/ Lyrics: Victor Nilsson all except 7 Lyrics: Christine Björk (7) Produced & mixed by Simon Jansson, Joakim Lindberg, Victor Nilsson Mastered by Andreas Tilliander Layout: Nisse Axman Artist: Christine Björk, Joakim Lindberg, Victor Nilsson, Sebastian Hedberg, Erik Nilsson MF/MB/ is not the sound of Malmö, Stockholm, Berlin or New York, or any other place considered to be hip, progressive and associated with great music. MF/MB/ is and always will be the sound of Bollnäs. It may not be what the inhabitants of Bollnäs would refer to as the sound of their home town, but in the bands opinion it is. MF/MB/ is countryside and city streets, it’s woods and concrete, cigarettes and alcohol, hope and despair, clubs and saunas, autobahn and bad English. MF/MB/ is gay sex and straight sex and endless studio sessions. It’s the anger and disillusion of performing in Berlin as 18 year olds and then going back to Sweden to play in small pubs in the middle of nowhere for people who’d rather listen to Basshunter. MF/MB/ is guitars, drums, bass, synthesizers, vocals and computers, but most of all its Victor, Jocke, Sebastian, Christine and Erik, making the best music they know. This is their debut album “Folded”. First single from the album “The Big Machine” toured the web around and second one was ”The Grand Chase”. |

Music: This Is Head Lyrics: Björn Wiking Produced by This IS Head (1) Mixed by TomBjörn Recorded in Studio Möllan, Malmö Mastered by Andreas Tilliander Layout: Janhenric Photo: Jesper Berg Artist: Adam Jacobsson, Henric Claesson, Björn Wiking, Tom Malmros This was the second single from the debut album “0001”. “0011” features Danish pop diva star RebekkaMaria but here she’s more of an urban fairy floating in the background like mist. The surroundings has always been incorporated in This Is Head’s music and here on this single the outer world pays credit back in form of 5 brilliant remixes, each one with their own perspective on the scene and the original track. Follow Malmö disco scene partner VED brings in crickets and Swedish radio voices to a groove that sounds as an organic Bristol party. Kasper Bjørke makes singer Björn in This Is Head put new vocals over a beat that best can be described as minimal-disco. Kasper is one of Denmark’s best and most busy DJs and producers. Harald Björk is an up and coming star on the Swedish techno scene. This almost IDM-remix plays with the lyrics and creates an interesting voyage that already been appreciated by DJ’s like James Holden. Pao Pao nourishes the songwriting and both creates beautiful voices and turns the original to the dance floor, with the melody in focus. Adam Lundberg has also made remixes and tracks under the moniker Karachi. Adam has just started his own label called Geography Records where you will be able to enjoy his innovative skills in the producers’ chair. This remix takes you for an ambient disco ride of 16 minutes of mind blowing adventure. |

An endless list of fine remixes from Andreas Tillianders album “Show”. 1. Hurting from the Lack of Bass A completely new track from Andreas Tilliander. or is it? Anyone with an explanation wins. What we know is that it goes down with a dub and a true track. 2. She Don't Cry (Minilogue's Inca in the Cloud Mix) Electronic superstars Minilogue, here in a splendid deep house, dub techno remix. 3. She Don't Cry (Minilogue's Leftover Loop) There is nothing left over with this remix. It is meant for the leftovers of the table, for the late hours. Cocoon’s Minilogue goes deep down with this remix. 4. Stay Down (The Field Remix) The Field is one of the big stars on renowned German label Kompakt. He chops it up and delivers a brilliant remix to make you contemplate. 5. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Mikael Stavöstrand Remix) With over fifty releases and appearances on both Fabric mixes and mixes by Get Physical's MANDY, Mikael Stavöstrand has become one of the most important names in the world of deep, minimal techno. He is frequently traveling the world playing at the biggest clubs and festivals. In this remix he is in a slight jolly mood. Nice to see you smile! 6. Arlanda (feat. Jocke Berg) (Familjen Remix) Familjen, one of the super stars on the Swedish electronic scene, made a name for himself even abroad with the monster hit “Det snurrar i min skalle”, a few years ago. Here he puts another of the super stars in Sweden, Jocke Berg from the band kent, in a really flourishing 90’s euro sound. A really Detroit-like playful and really simple version for the floor. 7. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Boeoes Kaelstigen’s Flars Remix) Upcoming stars Boeoes Kaelstigen are masters of production that makes you think of futuristic mind travelling and aerodynamic. Look out for their debut album in 2010. And who is Flars? Flars - born in 1977. Real name Fredrik. Livs in Rotebro. Belongs to "Trinity Sound System". Once called Flash. Absolutely fantastic DJ. Short unpolished hair cut and best dressed in hip-hop uniform. Seems to like green and does have a telephone nr. 8. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Pellarin’s Ritz Mix) Pellarin used to be in charge of the machines and production in Danish band Printer. He stayed up one night, drank some of his beloved whiskey and came up with this smoothly ticking remix. Like a line on a piece of paper. Elegant and oh so beautiful. 9. Caught in a Riot (Karachi Reduction) Adam Lundberg commutes to Berlin and the grayness in his music makes us dwell over ramshackle squat houses and dripping water. His take is epic, atmospheric and oh so beautiful in all its darkness. In over 16 minutes he digs down into a deep deep cave, so still you can see the scents. 10. Caught in a Riot (Per Hammar Remix) Per Hammar is a rising star. Don’t be surprised to find him on the bill wherever you are. He is a master of techy almost progressive smooth dance euphoria. This instrumental take of Caught in a Riot makes us think of open seas and night dancing on white beaches. 11. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Staffan Lindberg Remix) Staffan isn’t just Malmö’s sluttiest DJ; he is a hell of a producer as well. This take is in our face, on the floor, through the ceiling. You have seen him sharing stage with names like Boys Noize and Crookers, this is already a fidget house classic. 12. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Triobelisk Remix) Triobelisk goes to Norway for inspiration for this space disco remix. There among the fjords he transcendent to outer space and comes back with a peak dance floor swinger. 13. Arlanda (feat. Jocke Berg) (Urban Electro Squad Remix) Johan Antoni has created music for crate diggers for a while now. This remix could be electro if it wasn’t so slow and crawling. A reptile like remix with Jocke Berg from kent on vocals. 14. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Houseclap Remix) Houseclap is an extension of Swedish house collective Spånka NKPG. As we know Spånka NKPG they have always danced around in the neighborhoods of electronica, jazz-house and filter disco, this is no exception. Except that it is really meant for the floor. So put your hand up, and swing! 15. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Tomi Kiiosk Remiksi) The likewise crazy as genius Finn Tomi Kiiosk cuts the original in pieces and clamps them back together in big chunky beats. Completely analogue and brilliant, he will make you dance your way into your worst Koskenkorva experience. 16. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Kite Remix) Kite is Christian Berg (Yvonne, Strip Music) and Nicklas Stenemo (The Moe, Melody Club). Together they make new wave/synth pop in their own special way. They turn “Caught in a Riot” to a duet and bring in something that sounds like a children’s choir. 17. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Data80 Remix) Swedish electronic producer Håkan Lidbo, has among many things remixed Depeche Mode with great success. He goes under many names. His moniker Data80 can be found on many compilations, among them some from French babies Institubes. Håkan nourish the 80’s in this blipping poppy bon-bon remix. 18. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Vapnet Remix) Vapnet may be Sweden’s best pop band and this is the sweetest treatment of an electronic track you might ever hear. Vapnet takes a look at the song and realizes that it might as well be an English version of one of their own folk pop tracks and make sure that we hear it as they do. Flutes, xylophones and a tossing beat. Listen and smile. For the indie pop dance floor. 19. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Kaman Leung Fittsforfight Petraholic Version) Kaman Leung is the saga of one of the world's most beloved Swedish/Chinese hip hop producers now exiled in Norway. In an attempt to protect the music he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Kaman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space. 20. Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Slyboots Remix) Slyboots emerged a few years ago with incalculable grooves and absolute rhythm feeling, a successful symbiosis between 'brand new' and 'retro'. This remix is built around futuristic rhythms and the song’s melody structure. 21. Medication (MKMN99 Remix) A remix of a recreation. This is meta post music from deeeep down south. This is the deepest you can go down the dub step caves. |

Lyrics: Pontus Wickman Music: Pontus Wickman Recorded, mixed & produced by jens Lindgård at Gula Studion Mastered by David Carlsson at Gula Studion Layout, phonogram & website: Marcus Slivka Picture & artwork by Andreas Poppelier The Band: Rickard Flygel, John Bjerkert, Pontus Wickman Extra musicians: Johannes Ekdahl Du Rietz, Andreas Pettersson, Nils Lidman “Större avstånd högre spanning” was the first of three thematic EPs to be released during 2010. A musical starting point for “Den svenska tystnaden” is the pure trio setting with no distinction between composition, arrangement and performance. The result for this EP is minor key rock music that is precisely played and nervously monotonous. The lyrics are introvert and private with repressed feelings of anger, fear and distress manifested in a language that mixes sober observations with dreamlike imagery. In spring 2007 “Den svenska tystnaden” played their first chords. That summer the band played at a small countryside festival and just as the band were about to begin to play the dinner bell rang and the crowd disappeared. Left in front of the stage was a silly smiling Jens Lindgård who had earlier produced David & The Citizens, Franz Ferdinand, Cardigans The Ark and more. He contacted Adrian Recording and soon Den svenska tystanden had begun recording “Större avstånd högre spanning”, their first EP, in Gula Studion. The recording was prolonged, mostly due to paternity leave, full time jobs and an uncurbed perfectionism. The release phonogram and platform is found on: www.densvenskatystnaden.se |

Recorded by Mathias Oldén at Mission Hall Studios Mixed by Mathias Oldén at Aerosol Grey Machine Mastered by Mathias Oldén at Aerosol Grey Machine Design: Torny Gottberg Artist: Gustaf Kjellvander, Dan Englund, Mathias Oldén, Joachim Leksell, Fabian Ris Lundblad “This is the Day”, which borrows its name from the classic “The The”-tune, is a catchy song about changing your ways. Bassist Joachim Leksell and Drummer Fabian Ris Lundblad’s rhythmic drive lay down the basics to this locomotive of a song driving ever faster. Gustaf sings, as always passionately, that he is tired of digging his grave all the while Dan Englund’s hammering piano sounds like amphetamine damaged nerve endings falling apart at the seams. “This is the day” is a rocker of a song for everyone who ever truly understood the energy and passion of punk rock. |

Music: This Is Head Lyrics: Björn Wiking Produced by This IS Head Mixed by TomBjörn Recorded in Studio Möllan, Malmö Mastered by Henrik Jonsson at Masters of Audio Layout: Janhenric Photo: Emma Svensson Artist: Adam Jacobsson, Henric Claesson, Björn Wiking, Tom Malmros Extra musicians: Mattias Svensson, RebekkaMaria 0001 sounds as much like the wet streets around Möllevången square in Malmö as they do any spacious warehouse in Brooklyn or deserted parking garage in a remote part of Düsseldorf. Their curiosity has placed them anywhere and nowhere. They are as eager to consume new and old things as any blog, club or DJ out there. They have grown without any blinders on, while at the same time honing their sound in their own studio, within their own universe. They have built their songs and their confidence in themselves without feeling any pressure. They never thought of a song with the idea of sounding like Yeasayer joining up with the drummer from Neu! in an effort to play unreleased songs by U2 just so they could be mixed by Dan Lissvik from Studio and then be released by Touch & Go. That just happened. This Is Head never had a plan, and the goal has only been to become as good as they can get. They have had time to listen to themselves, communicate and let the organic process lead them to produce songs that are fit to resonate through the music world which they belong. Songs that are as brilliant as they are. |

The debut album by Dmitry Fyodorov was not released in any physical form - no one found it necessary. The album was released in 2 forms: 1 mixtape and 1 version where the tracks are separated. All for your DJ:ing pleasure. DOWNLOAD the mixtape version HERE: adrianfiles.com/Shapeless_The_Mixtape.mp3 The name ”Shapeless” is a comment on the collective image of our home planet, the earth, as a pretty safe and constant environment that we, the inhabitants, have mapped out a long time ago. However this might not always be the case; if you start to look closer on our planet you will find a lot of anomalies and modern day events that sounds more like the plot for a video game or a great sci-fi novel. This is a common inspiration for several tracks on the album. “Shapeless” starts out with the track ”Tunguska”, referencing an event that took place on June 30th 1908 near the isolated Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Siberia. At about 7 am there was an explosion that knocked over an estimated 80 million trees over a 2,150 square kilometer area, this would have destroyed a large metropolitan area of today’s standards. Eyewitnesses observed bluish light moving across the sky accompanied by a great sound moving east to north. Most eyewitnesses just reported the light and sound and no sighting of an explosion or a fire. It took almost 10 years for the first scientific expedition to arrive to the area and there is still a great dispute on what caused the explosion. After “Tunguska” the albums moves further down in the human psyche and the perception of our surroundings with tracks like ”Next to Owl Grave Coffin” and ”Thinking of Space”. One of the bigger tracks on the album called ”Centralia Detour” is inspired by the ghost town Centralia located in the state of Pennsylvania, USA. Underneath the now empty city a mine fire has been burning since the early sixties. Nowadays the underground fire is still burning and most of the roads are destroyed by the heat and filled with smoke. Another track, “Etzweiler” is inspired by the German ghost town of Etzweiler. Abandoned in 1996 it had completely disappeared by 2006, swallowed by encroaching strip mines. A bit further down the track list we find one of the more light minded tracks on the album, ”Simcoe”, which pays tribute to a wonderful beverage – beer. To this track, SektorFilm has made an outrageous video about food and things you’re not supposed to do while consuming it. A remix of the classic Dmitry Fyodorov track ”MD5VSSHA1”, that told the tale of MD5, one of the most used cryptographic hash functions on the internet and its great successor SHA 1, is also included. In comparison with the original track it highlights how the Dmitry Fyodorov sound has developed in to a tighter and more subtle way of creating that creeping, dark and intruding feeling over the last year. The sound might be a little less hostile but it will still give you shivers. |

Music by Andreas Tilliander Lyrics and vocal melody by King Solo (A1) Lyrics and vocal melody by David Fransson (B1, B2) Produced by Andreas Tilliander (A1, A2) Produced by Sebastian Mullaert (B1) Produced by Daniel Troberg (B2) Mastered by Andreas Tilliander Layout: Christian Callmer Photo by Jesper Berg This is the second half of the story of ”Show” the 12” vinyl “Showtime”. A rock hard uncompromised dub/dub-step influenced EP with 2 new Andreas Tilliander tracks and 2 exceptional remixes. Andreas has always been influenced by the smoky delay drenched work in the line of Agustos Pablo, ever since his first album, and following the traces you can see where this 12” comes from. But Andreas never stands still and now it is 2010. The work with the EP begun when Andreas made a version of a well known Ace of Base track for the compilation ”Musiken vi hatar (The Music We Hate)”. He calls the track “Dub That She Wants” and writes in the liner notes – I did a psyched-out düb remix in traditional Lee Scratch Perry style and found out that any song can be interesting if produced in a suitable way. And I realized that the hate for the song helped me to focus on what I really want to do; experimental and electronic music.” His analogue delay echo was working overtime and his interest for dub influenced electronic music with deep basses and rusty chords flourished. Interesting is that even the 2 remixes share a connection to the black, rainy, Jamaican delay world. Minilogue’s remix might not sound like that but listen to the original track and you feel the vibes and Erase’s remix can be traced straight back to the holy grail of dub techno - “Basic Channel”. A1 - Stay King (feat. King Solo) The NYC-rapper King Solo added vocals to the instrumental track ”Stay Downer” featured on the album ”Show” and Andreas recreated the track to a dance floor crawling piece ready for dark and small places. A2 - Medication The track started off with a remix of the track ”Medicine” from ”Show” but the bastard cut loose and walked a path where we don’t really are to follow. You can call it dub step. We call it düb. B1 - She Don't Cry (Minilogue's Inca Dub) Lovers of electronic music have been esteeming Minilogue for many years. Nowadays it is almost impossible to imagine club music without these two musicians from Malmö, Sweden. After releasing outstanding productions on such renowned labels as Traum, Crosstown Rebels or Wagon Repair, their opus magnum “Animals” was released on Sven Väths Cocoon Recordings in 2008. We are proud to present a remix from these world stars knowing that their work not comes in quantities. B2 - Caught in a Riot (feat. New Moscow) (Erase Remix) “Caught in a Riot” was the first single from the album ”Show”. This is a fantastic deep secret remix from your new favorite - Erase. In addition to this 12” Adrian Recordings also released ONE video done with BOTH tracks – ”Medication” and ”Stay King”. The video is mentally disturbing and totally disrespectfully done by the production office “Varelsen” that also is responsible for the now classic video to the track “Hitchhikers Choice” from Minilogue. |

Produced by Petter Granberg 4. Produced by Mattias L Nihlén Design by Patrik Instedt This is an EP consisting of the second single from the album “89” by The Bear Quartet. Main track is called “Carry Your Weight” accompanied by 3 versions of the same track. The title track and the original version is the last to one track of the album. It lures in the background but here enters the main stage both with scent of incense and slow caressfull dancing. Second track is a legendary meeting between two up north legends. The Finnish cult singer M.A. Numminen and his accordion playing supporter Pedro has made a completely unique version. Petter Granberg is usually a member of the excellent indie outfit Park Hotell, but he also makes slow Norwegian/Brooklyn influenced disco under the moniker Strange Maps. This version is made for forest dancing and attic parties. There is a new scene growing in Malmö, Sweden. It is nothing you have ever heard before and is derived from unique and mystic clubs like Klubb Kristallen and Stephen Hawkins and labels like Lugnet and Psychic Malmö. One of the differential artists is the one man band VED. Here he creates a deep ambient, sunken marshy ground version, for your nightmares. |

Dmitry Fyodorov returned from the dark depths of modern technology with "Coconut Office". A track that sets the beginning of a journey; taking you away from mind and reality and moving towards a new landscape of unknown shapes, smaller rooms and less paranoia. A track trying to free you, trying to make you break the walls of Coconut Office in the early morning light. A track telling you to take the coconut and start walking slowly towards the light. This was the first taster from Dmitry Fyodorov’s debut album “Shapeless”. |

The Bear Quartet never look back and never stand still. “We've made this new album, 89, and it totally rocks, man. We recorded it in Stockholm over the course of five days and it's a big record, there really is no other way to describe it. It spans effortlessly over metal, kraut, Finnish tango music, afrobeat and punkrock without once losing focus or becoming pretentious. Art but not arty. Great songs with great lyrics. And danceable. This was the first single from the album “89” by the legendary The Bear Quartet. The first release on another label than A West Side Fabrication. The first release on Adrian Recordings. The single “Millions” was presented together with two versions of the same track. Both deeply rooted in the top of the Swedish creativity. The mighty The Skull Defekts made a cover version, a low ominous rock version, a dull threat of a distant fall. Andreas Tilliander made a version that is closer to his moniker Mokira than what he presented on his more clubbier album “Show” earlier the same year. You can hear echoes of artists like Pan Sonic, Cabaret Voltaire and Chris & Cosey in the experimental and cold sound landscape. This might also be the first remix ever of a The Bear Quartet track. Art but not arty. |

Music by Andreas Tilliander Lyrics and vocal melody by Jocke Berg Produced by Andreas Tilliander (1, 2, 4) Produced by Johan T Karlsson (3) Mastered by Andreas Tilliander Layout: Christian Callmer Photo by Jesper Berg This was the second single from Andreas Tilliander’s album ”Show” a somewhat deep house experiment topped with the singer in Scandinavia’s biggest band – Jocke Berg from kent. Jocke Berg makes a rare vocal contribution with another artist than his own band. When Familjen, where Andreas is live musician, was touring with Kent in the spring of 2007 Jocke Berg heard one of the sketches for a song, later to be included on the new album. Jocke complained about never being requested to sing on other artists’ songs, so Andreas said “why don’t you sing for me?”, to which he agreed! One week later he had written a melody and a lyric. You can really hear how his voice really melts in with the analog synth sound. Best recognized when Andreas just plays with his voice in guttural sounds. Jocke has a really nice voice. Yes he has. Featured on the single is a Radio Edit, for all radios stations that are to scared to play the 7 min original album version (also featured), and a Deitroit Familjen remix. Finishing the single does Skavsta; a little more off, a little dirtier, a little more inconvenient. |

The track is a duet between singer Gustaf Kjellvander and the British song bird Theoretical Girl. “We met when we both were touring together in Germany, and we shared room together for two weeks. We became good friends and when we played a lot together I discovered that our voices were like made for each other. I wrote the song for her voice and mine.” Gustaf says and continues: “We write the same kind of songs and we seems to share the same ability to write simple but honest pop/punk songs. We both find inspiration from the likes of Neil Young, Fad Gadget, Country and Punk” “You Knew I Was Trouble From the Start” is a duet in the Gram Parson/Emmylou Harrris tradition but with wire guitars that smoothly caresses the two singers characteristic voices. |

With Show, Andreas Tilliander takes his music one step further. His dub influences have become more obvious and the sound is darker and crispier without losing the warmth. David Fransson from Division of Laura Lee/New Moscow sings on three of the tracks, among them the melodic Caught in a Riot. Other guests include Jocke Berg and Martin Sköld from Scandinavia’s biggest band - Kent. Jocke Berg makes a rare vocal contribution, on the second single “Arlanda”, with another artist than his own band. Other guests includes Swedish black magician Henric de la Cour from legendary band Yvonne and Strip Music and Familjen that finally finds a way to pay back to Andreas for all miles on the road. Both Henric and Familjen appears on the crawling Medicine where Familjen makes a rear contribution in English. All excellent vocal contributions aside, this is a masterpiece and really shows the strength of Andreas’s role as a producer. The beauty is in the details. This is an album with many layers and that just grows on you. A dark dance album, for the floor or for the arm chair. |

The songs reflect a darker side of main man Gustaf Kjellvanders psyche. “Dolophine Smile” is a sonic journey to the center of a broken heart: A frank, sincere and honest look at a relationship falling apart at the seams. From Joachim Leksell’s opening bassline on “Friday on My Knees” all the way through to the stunning bittersweet closing track “You Knew I Was Trouble From the Start”, which features UK starlet “Theoretical Girl”, it is clear that the band means business. The lyrics are more self revealing and heavy in satire than ever before. The songs are stronger and the sound more “rock oriented”. The list of influences could be made long but that would be missing the point entirely. Yes, you can hear the heritage from bands such as The Velvet Underground, The Byrds, Dinosaur Jr, and Orange Juice running through the songs but most of all The Fine Arts Showcase sound like, well, The Fine Arts Showcase. The Songs speak for themselves - stunning, romantic and beautiful. The Fine Arts Showcase always succeed in the hard task of sounding familiar and at the same time fresh, new and exciting. |

You get one new massive track to blow your mind. One new exclusive track for this vinyl, that reminds you of times when the acoustic guitar was Gustaf’s best companion. And two of the classic The Fine Arts Showcase-tracks, that you just need on vinyl. This is a vinyl for the newcomer. You get one track that gives you a hint of what you’re up to in the future. One track that makes you feel special. And two tracks that introduces you to the world of The Fine Arts Showcase. After the well acclaimed “Radiola” in 2006 and the cover album “Sings Rough Bunnies” in 2007, The Fine Arts Showcase returned with their Quadruple A side 12” EP ”Friday on my knees”. The Title track is a claustrophobic love song that is reminiscent of early Dinosaur jr, Orange Juice and Sonic Youth. But it is also true that the echoes go even further than that. You can hear the roots back from NYC 1975 in the sweet twin guitars and distorted bass lines. ”Heaven to me” is an acoustic 3-minute wonder with just an organ and a guitar accompanying Gustaf´s trademark vocals. ”Modern Love” originally written by The Rough Bunnies and taken from the tribute album, is a song about a one night stand and one of the groups best songs, that goes for both The Fine Arts Showcase and The Rough Bunnies. ”Chemical Girl” from ”Radiola” is a hazy song about romantic deception brought on by chemical indulgence. |

Released everywhere else the 1st of Dec. This was the sequel to the 12” vinyl - Commuting Colour. Six remixes of the original tracks “Cecta” and “Radius”. Every remix is a work of art itself. Standout tracks over the top. Not really meant as a whole. More like a shivery haze of mixed up calculations and adventures in the unknown. You can move, but can you dance?. This is taken too far. This is the end of the line. Boeoes Kaelstigen teams up with newcomers from the next generation. This is people not responsible for what they are up to and they are letting us face the consequences. Hailing from Germany, Russia and Kenya, we gather large parts of the world here in this commuting experiment. Comments: 1. Radius backwards, all our favorite sounds (and reverb) 2. Karachi's got enough air to inflate an Intex 3. Markus's computer broke 4. A deep but yet nervous version of Cecta, for lazy Sundays with hangover 5. Andycap's take is amazingly familiar, but completely different 6. "That's not death metal house, that's fucking noise!" When this released first appeared on Beatport the 3rd of Nov, there was in fact 7 remixes included. Lanui & Taped did an excellent house version of Cecta, unfortunately, they did not agree, so we had to take that one off. So if you managed to get it, you’ve got yourself a rarity. |

The 10th track in the 2088 series of odor from Dmitry Fyodorov was a special extra treat. This time we offered a remix by Dmitry Fyodorov, original track made by fellows Boeoes Kaelstigen. Boeoes Kaelstigen says: "That's not death metal house, that's fucking noise!" Dmitry Fyodorov says: “You can only feel true relaxation when very little energy is consumed by the body and mind. And since all actions uses stored energy, relaxation is necessary for good health. This is the bodies way to recharge all those little batteries in you. This is where Dmitry Fyodorov’s remix of Boeoes Kaelstigen‘s track "Radius" comes in; we wanted to give the track a more relaxed feeling, something to listen to while you do your daily yoga routine or takes a walk in the park.” |

In early 2008 two hungover people meet over a coffee in Malmö. One was Magnus Bjerkert of Adrian Recordings, the other was Marcus Cato. Cato was, and is, still one of the most talented songwriters and musicians Adrian Recordings ever met. He is also, however, on a different planet. Even though he played with, and made music with artists like Familjen, Emil Jensen, David & The Citizens and Jens Lekman, he doesn’t have the same ambitions as regular musicians and not the same agenda.
That very day Marcus was very frustrated, he complained about all the new music he heard, he said that he hadn’t heard anything truly new, interesting or emotionally captivating since the days of rag time. Magnus did not agree, but he was intrigued by Marcus’s enthusiasm and negativity. Magnus knew that Marcus himself was capable of making the music he wanted to hear himself, and Magnus was curious to hear the result. Magnus challenged Marcus. Magnus would buy recording devices to Marcus and in return he would record 3 tracks a week. The best of the tracks would be published on Adrian Recordings’ web site. This would continue for one year. The task was overwhelming but Marcus accepted. And Marcus Cato is the only one we know that actually have the skills and is stubborn enough to fulfill it.
This is the origin of one of the most interesting musical project in recent years.
The project had several purposes:
* What happens creatively with a musician if he is forced to produce music in a speed of 3 tracks a week for one year? * How do you experience music when you are so overwhelmed by the quantity of it? You can’t divide it into parts. You have to accept that the parts are considered as a whole. This was, and still is, opposite to how many people consume music nowadays. * At the time, internet was even more fragmentized than it is now. It was a puzzle, with too many platforms with no real impact. The result was that people tried to be everywhere without doing it really well. We decided to do it the other way around. We wanted the interested listeners to come to us. We figured we would reach the true music fans by the method. Therefore the only place online where you could hear Marcus’s music was from a small streaming player at www.adrianrecordings.com. We called it the opposite of internet. But Marcus is opposite of so many things. The player is still there.
Marcus Cato started to deliver and the tracks just kept coming. The quality is remarkably high and always out of interest. The frames was expanding by force. In his own world he created an ever expanding micro cosmos, and once you stepped into his language you where forever a native, but neither we nor Marcus Cato are telling you what to speak.
Marcus also delivered track titles but he let Magnus combine the music with the titles. He started the series with the track “Vasamuseet, spejar efter land” and finished 52 tracks later with “Ridå”. It’s an imprint of a person. We drained him of music. This music is meant as a whole. A whole person.
The additional 2 pictures is made by artist Leif Holmstrand and photos of them was taken by Mika Korhonen.

“Close to the water I’m overwhelmed by the feeling that this is the place. But although I dig and dig there’s not a single gold nugget in sight. The dream changes. Suddenly I’m stuck in the hole with nothing but my head sticking up. I hear light tunes. They circle around my head. I wear a helmet but to no avail. The tunes penetrate my skull and nest inside my soul. It’s beautiful. It’s Cato. Cato, alas!, the smooth Marcus Cato and the one with sharpened canine teeth. Everything he does is reduced and simple – but seductive. He is allowed to trust every melodical whim. He knows how to manufacture these little whims out of large blocks of experience. How to slowly and carefully chisel out overlapping melodies on a piano. How to grind the barrel-organ in some fabulous French movie. How to make brittle and rustling guitar sounds hover above the landscape. I rise from the grave (still void of gold nuggets) and remove the helmet. Liberated.” Leif Holmstrand, writer & artist |

The 12 inch vinyl features the tracks Cecta and Radius, with remixes from two of our favorite producers; Dumb Dan and Mikael Stavöstrand. Boeoes Kaelstigen spent months in the studio and traveling, producing in such diverse places as railbuses through southern Europe and faded hotel rooms in Pyongyang, to reach the perfect - in every sense of the word - melodramatic tone. Music with a defined goal. Music to be heard on long trips through shimmering metropolises at dawn, and early mornings at barren clubs in ramshackle industrial states. |

The ongoing series of releases with Dmitry Fyodorov, was not just one brick after the other. It was a ladder, and it brought us down every time. This was the deepest, darkest, moldiest piece up to date, therefore also the best and most uplifting. A track for days of leisure. Your own free time - being free from civilization, booking flights to Berlin, staying awake for days, listening to techno, not knowing what day it is, not caring if the world ends. Leisure time! |

Music & lyrics: Emil Jensen except (4) Lyrics: Emil Jensen (4) Music: Emil Jensen & Marcus Cato (4) Produced by Lars Halapi Recorded by David Carlsson in Gula Studion, Malmö Mixed by David Carlsson, Lars Halapi, Emil Jensen Mastered by Christofer Stannow at Cosmos Mastering Layout by Markus Slivka Photos by Peter Westrup Artist: Emil Jensen Musicians: Lars Halapi, Thomas Axelsson, Peter Korhonen, Tomas Ebrelius, Charlotta Weber Sjöholm, Martin Eriksson, Andreas Westerdahl, John Löfgren Far too long time had passed since Emil was fully concentrating on the music but in the spring of 2008, two years after the releases of his preceding album, Emil finally went into the recording studio to record his third album. The focus was shifted and further challenges were coming. Emil is a notorious perfectionist with a large need for control and that was exactly what he needed to confront while putting Lars Halapi in the producers chair. Emil’s third album was recorded with a live band with the minimal of overdubs. Everything was based on the experience Emil has as a live artist. The goal was to find the perfect take and the perfect emotion to match that. The whole album was recorded in just a few days in Gula studion in Malmö where the band dug themselves deeper and deeper into something yet to be discovered. Emil found something there in the caressing studio environment that is impossible to explain. All emotions. All presence. The album is called “Emil Jensen”, it’s self evident. The first track to be unleashed from the upcoming album was the naive and romantic single “Så får du mig ändå”. With this track in his pocket he went on another big summer tour. This time it was Lars Winnerbäck that invited him to join his already star populated tour. Together with Winnerbäck, Miss Li, Maia Hirasawa, Markus Krunegård and more, they did over 25 shows all over Sweden. Second single is the bombastic “Hör dåligt fattar trögt”. |

It’s electronic pop music at its best. And it’s got power and depth. ”You Need To” is the second single from Printers’ hypnotic album “Can You take More?”. The perfect mix for body and soul, megabits and cells. Also featured on the single is a demo version of the track “Around the Bridges”. It is interesting to hear the evaluation the track has made from this demo version to the version on the album “Can You Take More?”. Here is the core of the song. It’s a beautiful thing in itself. Andreas Tilliander is one of Europe’s most occupied and respected electronic musicians. Here he has taken a weird fetish approach on the Printer track “Nightclub”. |

Or can it be a tribute to the controversial Sergeant D? Founder of the non-profit organization "People for the Ethical Treatment of Zombies" (PETZ), working to ending the injustices that zombies worldwide have had to endure for ages. A great cause for the undead, like Dmitry Fyodorov - bringer of havoc on dance floors and undeadliness. At this time Soviet hockey players weren't allowed to play in the NHL, so the Russian players went over to Canada to show the rest of the world how to play a noble game of hockey . Sadly Soviet lost the game, but the game is considered one of the best hockey games every played by some experts. A true showcase of great hockey. |

On this album the band has taken a more dirty and danceable, say techno, approach, although still maintaining the emotional and intellectual focus. It’s music to be moved by whether it’ll be on the dance floor or in your couch. It’s electronic pop music at its best. And it’s got power and depth. The many live performances that preceded this album shows in the work. Or as the band explains “We simply had more beers in the studio and we never danced so much as during the making of this record.” However if this is their cheeriest moment, you might feel worried for the mental health of the members, because this is dance music of the moody kind, ostensibly purveyed by fellow Scandinavians the Knife: a fog of melancholy surrounds their lithe beats and blippy synthesizer melodies, making it the perfect album to linger with you for a long time. Most of the record's cuts, like the Auto-Tune enhanced "Satisfaction" and the swirly "All Right", offer a baroque take on 21st-century new wave but there is always a techno background to it. To amplify the beat we’re finishing the album with Boeoes Kaelstigen’s Microsievert Remix of the Printer track “I Swear” (the original can be found on the Printer album “I Can Take More” out on Statler & Waldorf) a collaboration made in thin, high radioactive air. The album is already appointed one of the best albums of the year by Earplug magazine and so far we haven’t seen one bad review. |

The album, which was released in the early summer of 2007 is accordingly named “The Fine Arts Showcase Sings Rough Bunnies”. This is the second single; the first one was the lovely “Dance With Your Shadow”. ”Modern Love! Is an immediate and intimate song about ”one night stands”. Straight forward and head on! No macho style or with an ironic glimpse in the eye just a deep look in someone else’s eyes and then a stranger’s hand in yours. The cover version creates a queer angle to the narrative persona. No theories, just emotions. “The Fine Arts Showcase” has always been all about emotions and outspokenness. As well as all the other tracks on the album, Gustaf approaches the “Rough Bunnies” songs in his own way. He doesn’t rearrange them, he doesn’t interpret them, he is singing them as if they where his own compositions. In some cases you can’t even be sure that, that is not the case; some of the songs are without a doubt with him in center. It is about love to each other, between each other, close but volatile. Sometimes too late sometimes all too intense, too narrow, but always out of time. Accompanying this song ” Robinovich” has made a fantastic music video that anyone with an internet connection can’t miss: Check here The video really captures the warm but tickling feeling in the song. This is a very physical video in chaotic slow motion. |

Music & lyrics: Anna Vermina, Frida Vermina (1-7, 9-11) Music & lyrics: Anders Vermina (8) Produced by Mathias Oldén & Gustaf Kjellvander Mixed by Mathias Oldén Mastered by Norman Blake Design: Hanna Sundén Cover illustrations: Malin Svärd Artist: Gustaf Kjellvander Extra musicians: Dan Englund, Mathias Oldén, Joachim Leksell, Johan Hansson This is an album of many stories. Gustaf Kjellvander and his friends forming The Fine Arts Showcase, has made a cover album, entirely based on songs from the Swedish, rather unknown, jangly, lo-fi band Rough Bunnies. Why is that? Let’s make Gustaf himself explain: “I was first introduced to Anna Vermina and her cousin Frida, the founding members of Rough Bunnies and Inside Riot, through mutual friends. Frida gave me a CD-R just days before they were about to move to Berlin. About six months later I was looking for someone to rent my spare room. I bumped into Frida by chance, who told me she had moved back from Berlin to Malmö and needed a place to stay – so she moved in. I was already smitten by Inside Riot at this time, and when Frida played me the songs they had recorded in Berlin, along with the Rough Bunnies record C-sides, it blew me away. I played it to everyone who came over to my house. They became an obsession that carries on to this day. I knew I wanted the Fine Arts Showcase to cover their songs. The problem was that with a catalogue of songs as amazing as theirs it was hard to pick just one, so I came up with the idea that we should do an entire record instead (in the Merle Haggard sings Jimmy Rodgers tradition). And here it is: a musical love letter to two of my favorite songwriters, a celebration of the pop geniuses of the Vermina family. Rough Bunnies (and their twin group Inside Riot) have inspired me more than any other band this side of the millennium and this record is my way of thanking them. ROUGH BUNNIES SAVED MY LIFE.” - Gustaf Kjellvander The extra, on top of it all, twist to the album is that it is mastered by the legendary Mr Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub. That is another one of the stories involved. We were really frustrated there for awhile. The master was lost and we didn’t know what to do. All we could do was rolling out thumbs in despair and finally it all turned out excellent. The first regular single from the album was “Dance With Your Shadow”. |

More than 25 performances and all on the ecological bike. This song “Ghana mot Italien” was the teaser for the shows. The single to make you long for hot summer nights with hot cheap beer by the sea. A melody hook that's beyond infectious, a true “can’t stop humming song” and a mysterious battle. One for the road. |

These are exactly these kinds of projects that we love here at Adrian Recordings. First, what you hear have to be to notch, but that goes without saying, secondly, it doesn’t hurt if the release has this little twist and story to it. If you look carefully into every release we have done, you shall find that there is often something more to it. And this time we are so glad that Gustaf is doing it for us. This is the first single from the album “The Fine Arts Showcase Sings The Rough Bunnies”. Gustaf and his friends don’t denies the instant, frail lo-fi character of the original, but they twist it around, slows it down and really nourish the beauty of the song. The extra, on top of it all, twist to the album is that it is mastered by the legendary Mr Norman Blake. |

Made for the dance floor but with lyrics implying something broader. The second track “Det vet du” is harder, darker and builds up to a regular synth solo straight from Night Rider. The third track “Ordning” is exclusive for this single and a perfect instrumental track for racing through the night. |

Familjen was from this point our common project. We started off with a very special release. We was trying to take the concept of web releases one step further and really use the internet like a regular phonogram. The single was released via the new registrated site http://www.detsnurrariminskalle.com/hogluft/ (the name taken from the lyrics from the Familjen track “Ivanhoe & Rebecca”.) On there you find the art of artist Ljudbilden & Piloten (AKA Kristoffer Ström) and all the tracks for download, for free. Some of the tracks are hidden on purpose. The reason is that we try to change the way that people use the internet. By telling people that you will find seven tracks for free on the site if you search, we try to get people to stay longer on the site and really enjoy the art and the music that you find there. People tend to stay shorter and shorter on websites and the feeling is that web material is not so important. Besides being wonderful music and art it is also a statement towards the light-weight-look upon music and art that internet is creating. Upon that we also took the release out on the streets and into cafés and stores that we liked in Malmö, Göteborg and Stockholm by making a carton sleeve for the release. If you wanted to you could then make your own regular CD by downloading the tracks, burn it on a CD and put it in there. The sleeve also served as a flyer. Hög luft is an instrumental dance track both suitable for the dance floors and armchairs. Remixes differs, from The Fields minimal noise techno to the house of Air Bureau and Bauri, via an acid jazz feel of Fujasaki and the deep minimal dark trips of Mikael Stavöstrand. |

In classic Adrian Recordings’ manner we thought that we should give you something more than just a single. We took the opportunity to make a real ad hoc EP. An EP that opens up eMiL Jensens career and stretches the boundaries of his artistship. “Maj förra året” is the track that has been most motioned in reviews of the album, and yes it is memorable lyrics. “Gått mig i blodet” is right now considered the best track Emil ever recorded, and it has strength and edge. “Familjen himmel” sounds like something David Lynch would sync to a deserted forest; and it is also the only track released featuring his first solo band. Just to put two remixes on an eMiL Jensen release is quite offensive. My guess is that there is a crowd out there that can’t stand this; maybe I’m prejudiced towards his fans but…as always just listen. Do you like it? If no!? oh… Well… All others; take your car or bike and drive around with those in your ears. |

In a kind of Lou Reedish deadpan he talks us through a typical but very happy Malmö summer. A picnic in Peoples Park, and drinks at the bar Tempo along with making out at the western harbour and looking out to see all the lights of Copenhagen, are the central topics. While the music itself is more reminiscent of the softer side of early velvet Underground, Stereolab and The Flaming Lips...or as Hanna very accurately once said that the song sounded like Eggstone on heroin... “Modern Love” is a song written by the band Inside Riot (who later became The Rough Bunnies, The Flame etc.). Gustaf’s version is a celebration of the pop genius of Anna and Frida Vermina. The song is taken from the Inside Riot/Rough Bunnies tribute album "The Fine Arts Showcase sings the Rough Bunnies" (which should be called “The Fine Arts Showcase sings The Rough Bunnies and Inside Riot”) The story goes that Gustaf first heard this song when Frida was renting a room in Gustaf's apartment (2004) and they were trading songs. Gustaf had just played the song “Laughter” (also on “Radiola”) and Frida had said in her very soft voice: “I've also written a song about a one night stand”. Gustaf was amazed after Frida had finished. It was very clear that a brilliant song writing team had been at work. The seed for The Fine Arts Showcse sings The Rough Bunnies had just been planted. |

Prior to this release, Emil endured a very difficult period of his life. As a result; he tried to make a record that could comfort, not only him, but also his listeners. It is a record of deep melancholy but there is also lots of faith. The record is pervaded by the feeling of holding on to life, the struggle of keeping others to hold on, loose your guard and stand honest in front of life, love and your nearest; and not be afraid to be pretentious. The record takes you on a musical and lyrical journey over calm, beautiful and mysterious landscapes and villages. It tells you subtle stories about people and meetings. Sometimes with words but also with combining sounds and instruments in unholy marriages. The organic meets the machines on a poetic and political manifestation. If eMiL Jensen is a Swedish singer songwriter then he lives in the future and is a true pioneer. |

Familjen is Adrian Recordings’ demon producer. Responsible for many tweaks the last years, but this is at his best. When he just don’t give a damn and just brings us himself with power, groove and something almost close to warmth and tenderness. Johan is more a listener than a musician. He tries to do it as simple as possible; just adds a single melody and a groove and lay back and listen. As we all know the heart in the music doesn’t come from loneliness, it comes from the love of loving it and intensity; Johan has got it all. He’s got The Feeling! He brings life to the electronics, lets the synth speak and lets all his friends be a part of it. |

It was a fantastic mini-tour with sold out shows and joyful parties. We remember the crazy crowd in Lund, the horn session in Gothenburg, the late night in Växjö and the queue outside Metro in Malmö. And we remember the night at Chokladfabriken in Malmö the 24th of April. If you don't, for various reasons, this is a true reminder. For all of you who was there and all of you that wanted to; this is the night on tape. It contains a couple of tracks never before officially released. Here you can hear the classic show-opening-song "Peter Peter" and the first track with the name "Leva som en munk"; besides classic tunes. |

Gustaf, although still young, he has been on the music scene for some time. Fronting noisy outsider pop trio Sideshow Bob, playing with the more mellow Songs of Soil and delivering the Phil Spectoresque noise and songfest of The Fine Arts Showcase debut album ("Gustaf Kjellvander Proudly Presents the Fine Arts Showcase and the Electric Pavilion"). The Fine Arts Showcase’s sound is made up of a lot of different fragments. Loaning the pop sensibilities of bands like The Byrds, Television Personalities, The Jesus and Mary Chain and artist Gene Pitney with the songwriting and autobiographical elements of Merle Haggard, Leonard Cohen and John Lennon and the overall poetics of bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and The Silver Jews. Surrounded with melody and variation “Radiola” soars. Built like a compilation mix tape Gustaf has chosen to incorporate the sacral sounds of Songs of Soil, the raw emotion of Sideshow Bob and the experimentation and instrumentation of The Fine Arts Showcase debut from 2004 as well as exploring ground previously uncharted by Gustaf. This is music striving for something better, hoping to break the code, jump off the CD and to live a life of its own. |

Among many things this is a big f**k to people that think they know where to put us. Generalizations, genre labelling and prejudices are things we fight to avoid. This is all that but it is also beautiful music. In one way it feels like this release was the one that got Adrian Recordings further. “The Shoplifter’s Union” was the second single from The Fine Arts Showcase album "Radiola". It came with five, very different, versions of the first single "Chemical Girl". First the "original", the demo version. Some like that one better. Then there is the mighty The Field, world famous for his works for the German techno label Kompakt, here he is taking a dreamy and epic, white noise, cut and glitch-approach to the song. Our own Familjen is turning "Chemical Girl" to an electric dance pop tune. The bassist in Swedish band Monkeystrikes (in the past also in Souls), Johan Karlsson is also a skilled remixer, here he puts a DJ Shadow feeling to it. Last out is the unmerciful Project-X with hard EBM synth. |

The band had split up, but just before they did so, they recorded some tracks mostly for their own documentary purpose. Among these tracks were some of the best tracks they ever recorded. 2. The band was, for some reason, never really satisfied with any of the previous releases. People that know them, know that they rarely are satisfied at all, but the band saw their chance to make a final record that they could be really proud of. And they did, and they were. This record both summarize and bring forward the career the band had. We included the long gone out of sale debut EP “Kvar på film” and the astonishing new tracks, besides that some tracks formerly released in other versions. We all tried to just include things that we felt for and that we had feelings for at the moment. That was the way the band always had worked best, and this result really captured the essence of “Björns vänner”. |

People died along the way. Sharif is Adrian Recordings most dysfunctional band (including D&tC). It’s a beautiful record. We all wish that more people will hear it. The band never really worked with the album. They just couldn’t. Some strange shows where done but it never really worked out. There’s a lot of late nights put into this. A lot of alcohol. So much water has drained the band since the first album, so many sorrows and so many bottles. Birds, Bristol, Violence, Moss (Eagerly Awaiting Anytime), Inst., Dub, Sand, Kärnvapen, Friendship, Alcohol, Nuclear, Siaseet. “The doorbell rang and John was standing there in a balaclava and he told me to get ready for a ride. Clothes for three days, some CD's and forget the guitar, where we are going there'll be no playing. Outside, in the January snow there was a car with a trailer attached to it. John asked me to get into the trailer while he got into the driver's seat. In the trailer I found Marcus, Magnus and Johan who all looked kind of dazed. John drives like shit and he won't tell us where we are going. I got a bottle of dark rum and quickly got intoxicated, ‘cause as soon as I tried to get up to get something more to drink the trailer took a spun and I landed on the floor. After, what I guessed was a couple of hours, the trailer stopped and everything was silent on the outside. We stopped the CD-player and waited, giggling like girls. On the outside John was talking with someone. We carefully looked outside through the drapes. There was a small dwarf acting as if he was annoyed about something. John flung the doors open. This shitty place is not open. The dwarf won't let us in. Where are we? We are in Kristianopel and Sweden's most good looking camping site. Had an idea that we would get together and talk about the band. He slammed the door shut and the car started again. Soon we stopped again. We waited for John a while and he soon got into the trailer again. John had taken the trailer past the dwarf into the camping site through the surrounding forest. We hijacked the camping's electricity and were suddenly standing looking out over the ocean. The ocean tore itself into pieces and the cold wind hit our faces like knives. During the following weekend we slept less than what's needed and concentrated on what was important with the band and us. On the following Sunday morning the trailer burned down after a failed attempt to make spaghetti. We fled the camp site and the angry dwarf with a burned out trailer behind the car.” |

A single that is an EP includes songs written and performed by Sara Culler and Joel Fridlund. “White Van” is a gravely "on-the-road" track to rock round country lanes too. A song with the quality to have you moving along uncontrolled, and bopping too! We did no less that two brilliant videos to this track, one made by Anders Weberg and one by Petter Johannisson. This was the first time Adrian Recordings released one of Sara Cullers' songs. Sara has always been in the background, singing on many of David & the Citizens' songs, eMiL Jensen's "Naken ner på knä" and teaming up with David Fridlund on most of the songs on his album "Amaterasu". "Days That Can Be Ours" is perfect lo-fi pop euphoria in the style of Cat Power on speed or Eric's Trip without the dude. Joel is the brother of David and the man behind the tape machine while David recorded his solo album. "Bluelipscold" is a drunken Brian Ferry lying in the streets; elegant, sad but proud. This track is also released under Joel’s band name ” Late Mrs Eight” on the album ”Dear Adrenaline” out on French label ”T-Rec” (www.t-rec.org) . |

Nick Drake gave birth to it but it was brought up in Detroit with STAX as mother and Motown as its father. It later eloped and found Marcus Cato. The B-side is the song "Hela vägen ner", which was the first single from the album and here it is in its first version, called "Hela vägen ner (gamla vägen)". Longer and slower, with saxophone and different background vocals - other values than the album version, not better not worse, other. |

Much engaged in the album was his girlfriend Sara Culler, she herself known for her song writing, as a duet partner and background singer. The album title is also inspired taken from her middle name. From the album we picked two singles, “April & May” and “White Van” both on high rotation on radio stations all over the world. "Amaterasu" was partly recorded at an ex-slaughter house, backed by a few musicians, and produced, recorded and performed by David with help from his brother Joel. Finalized at Señorita Studios in Hässleholm, where Johan T Karlsson tweaks knobs and took the reigns for the final mix. If there is a place where something is minimal and experimental - it's where "Amaterasu" docks. “Amaterasu” is also released in USA on Hidden Agenda/Parasol, Japan on Egging/1977 Recordings and in Europe through BB*Island. The album got it shares of road travel mostly in Europe where David did two memorable tours with his band. |

Music & lyrics: Emil Jensen except (2,3,4,5,) Lyrics: Emil Jensen (2,3,4,5,) Music: Emil Jensen & Marcus Cato (2,3,4,5,) Produced by Johan T Karlsson, Emil Jensen, Marcus Cato Recorded & mixed by Johan T Karlsson & Johan Osberg Lööf All done in studio Señorita & in Hässleholms Kulturhus Mastered by Henrik Jonsson at Masters of Audio Layout: Albin Balthasar Lundmark (Apdesajn) Photo: Paul Ström Artist: Emil Jensen Musicians: Marcus Cato, Johan T Karlsson, Emil Heiling, Sara Culler, Erik Hågård The reason we on Adrian Recordings decided to work with eMiL Jensen is partly due to a bad walkman. It was a rainy late night in Malmö and I went out to buy something and in my walkman was some recordings that later on should be Emil’s debut album, but that I didn’t know then. The thing was that every time I walked a little bit too fast the walkman jumped and leaped so I had to slow down again. There I was slowly walking in the rain with Emil Jensen’s music in my ears. It was one of my life’s best music experiences. What I have come to know, the recording sessions wasn’t always so easy going. The three parties in this recording, Johan, Emil and Marcus sometimes fought over whatever and even rushed out of the studio in frustration sometimes. I believe it had to be done that way. It was worth it. Marcus still thinks the album should have been named “I natt är det krig” (Tonight there’s War) probably with one of these nights in mind. Speaking of name suggestions; this is a list of all the candidates that was proposed, in Swedish (With English translations, for all foreigners amusement) • I natt är det krig (Tonight there’s a War) • Här tar tungan slut (This is Where the Tongue Ends) • Två naturliga armar (Two Natural Arms) • Då så (Well then) • Vägen kommer lyft på benen (The Road is Coming, Lift Your Legs) • Golv upp till knäna (Floor up till Your Knees) • Flyktpotatis (Escape potato) • Dricker du svart vatten? (Are You Drinking Black Water?) • Här får fotsteget stanna (This is Where the Steps Cease) • Det där var en intim indian (This was one Intimate Indian) • Mark upp till knäna (Ground Up to Your Knees) • Vägen kommer lyft på fötterna (The Road is Coming, Lift your Feet) • Vägen kommer lyft på foten (The Road is Coming, Lift Your Foot) • Ett steg inåt (One Step Inwards) • En fot inåt (One Foot Inwards) • Vägen kommer närmare (The Road is Coming Closer) • Två fötter ända fram (Two Feet All the Way) |

"Hela vägen ner" is a bittersweet train ballad salted with some 80's synthesizers. It gained quite a lot air play in Sweden but not to the extent that it deserves. This one is a hit. This song was first recorded in a totally different version. When it was time to record the album a new version was recorded and so well that it became a single. To this one we made a video, a strange one. Feel lucky if you find it. |

Music & lyrics: David Fridlund Produced and recorded by Jens Lindgård & David & the Citizens in Gula studion” Design: Jörgen Dahlqvist & David Fridlund Cover collage: David Fridlund The Band: David Fridlund, Conny Fridh, Alexander Madsen, Mikael Carlsson, Magnus Bjerkert Extra musicians: Mattias Alkberg, Sara Culler, Jens Lindgård, Åsa Gjerstad, Andreas Sjögren, Sara Reis, Madelene Larsson It was supposed to be a spring EP. Four pop songs to run around a summer meadow to. Get to surrender to pop music again. But it didn’t happen. Somewhere it all fell by the wayside. It no longer felt relevant. Somewhere, I think it was in Dresden, Germany, the pop music disappeared. Everyone in the band had different ideas about everything. In the end I could only consider “Big Chill” as a single because all I wanted to do was to shout and play distorted guitar. That Matti ended up singing on “Big Chill” was really just a coincidence. With all due respect to Matti, we originally wanted Rickard from “Hell on Wheels” to sing it with David. Because he’s a good guy, because “Hell on Wheels” is a great band and because we know him. No-one in David & the Citizens has met Matti Alkberg. They didn’t even meet now when he recorded his singing. He did that in Luleå, and the band recorded everything in Malmö. But Bear Quartet is, after all, one of Sweden’s best bands. We got hold of Matti’s email and he accepted. Bear Quartet is, in our opinion, best when they’re angry, fed up and exposed, just like “Big Chill”. You can say that “Big Chill” is the bridge between the former David & the Citizens and the David & the Citizens that was yet to come. One funny anecdote is that in the studio while recording “Big Chill” was Sporty Spice (Melanie C), we so badly wanted her to sing with the band but she was tied up by lawyers. The thought of us almost bringing Matti Alkberg and Melanie C together in one track is so thrilling. The other 3 tracks was all considered to be singles from the "Until the Sadness is Gone"- album, but in the end they formed a better EP than being on the album. "Let's not Fall Apart" is here in the acid bath version, stripped down to the bones. Kellerman in “Kellerman’s Song” is private investigator Mike Kellerman, from the TV series “Homicide”. |

The songs, the arrangements and the recordings are overwhelming. The EP contains all the elements that constitute the magic of the band; down to earth melancholia, raw power, melodies, noise and lyrics of narrative beauty. There is no song in Finish here though, but the feeling of Swedish/Finish “dansband” in the song “Sunday Night” compensates it. “Truck Driver” is maybe the best Laakso track ever. Even the artwork is excellent; in our view the best from Laakso, so far. To get the right feeling on the track “Words are Worst” producer Jari Haapalainen first recorded the song in the Dubious studio, then took it home and recorded it back and forth from regular old cassette tapes four times before he took it to the mastering studio. |

It sounds a bit like a Motown-song, and the lyrics were inspired by Smokey Robinson’s way of writing. The band had the song for a while, but they were playing it like a medium-tempo pop song then David, by the drums, just started playing it like this instead, and it was a lot better for it. Track 2-5 is not really recorded by the band we know as Björns vänner. The recordings where done during a time when David & Conny where occupied with David & the Citizens. Some other musicians where brought in just for fun. It all turned out well, they even did a show with a different line up at Inkonst in Malmö. That line up is known as “Norra Grängesbergsgatans vänner”. Named after the street where the band used to have there rehearsal space (where these tracks are recorded). The video to ”Alexander Lukas” is one of the best produced from here. This is the story: Synopsis: A young, hungry filmteam is coming to Malmö to make Björns vänner’s new video. The director in convinced that he will make an awesome video that will harmonize with the edgy beat and the cocksure lyrics. All he has to do is finding the right environment and style the band. The vision he has is a dirty backyard style, a hard-boiled 80’s attitude, new wave romantic, pillow fighting and disco dance. The band is stiff to begin with but soon they loosen up. The singer Richard astonishes everyone with his cool manner and his photogenic attitude. Starring: Björns vänner: David Fridlund as David Fridlund Richard Schicke as Richard Schicke Conny Fridh as Conny Fridh Markus Slivka as Markus Slivka Mattias Bergström as Pelle Holmgren Crew: Johannes Widén as the director Annette Persson as the make up artist Ada Berger as the script girl Ola Norén as the photographer Björn Ericsson as the light man Måsse Hammar, Louise Ekdahl as trainees The crew making the real video: Director: Pelle Holmgren Photo: Ariel Gomar Production assistant: Björn Ericsson Lights: Robert Carlsson No less than three tracks made it to the radio play lists from this EP. First the title track "Alexander Lukas". Then there is the cover of the old Motown favourite "The Tracks of my Tears", here in a Swedish version called "Ser jag ut att må bra?". Press referred to singer and text writer Richard Schicke as a genius for this one. Then there is the driven "Mörkröda tomater". I can count three refrains, one after the other- They just roll over you and make you capitulate. |

It was only released on 7" vinyl, Adrian Recordings’ first. The song was first played live by the band as early as on the Hultsfred festival 2002 but is still a live favourite that the band still plays, from time to time. The single version means; no organ at the end. Christmas Eve is an anti-Christmas song. At first we thought we should release it before Christmas but then we realized that the song looks back on Christmas Eve so it was better to release it after Christmas. The band has played the song live once at a Christmas show at Inkonst in Malmö. |

It’s a catchy scream sing-a-long song and a really nice statement against all of those who thought that Laakso just where an acoustic singer/songwriter band. The video to the song is one of the best from Adrian Recordings but unfortunately it contains strobe effects so MTV could not show it. Wankers! Because the single was just a CD-R and we burned every copy ourselves we took different B-sides for every copy just to confuse people. And people where confused. Long discussions followed in Laakso’s guestbook regarding what song it was as B-side. We never wrote the name of the B-side on the cover neither so the fuzz was complete. I remember that on one copy I burned 15 B-sides. A lot of old Laakso demos. I don’t know where that particular copy is right now. |

Music & lyrics: David Fridlund Produced and recorded by Jens Lindgård & David & the Citizens in Gula studion except “Soar Feet + Blisters” recorded by David Fridlund at the rehearsal space Design: Jörgen Dahlqvist, Magnus Bjerkert, David Fridlund Cover painting: David Fridlund The Band: David Fridlund, Conny Fridh, Alexander Madsen, Mikael Carlsson, Magnus Bjerkert Extra musicians: The klezmer band Tummel , Sara Reis, Sara Culler, Åsa Gjerstad, Pelle Ossler, Andreas Sjögren, The Ebrelius Quartet, John Bjerkert, Jens Lindgård David & the Citizens’ world has always involved spontaneity and whims mixed with the knowledge that life can go from intense joy to deepest sorrow. Among the musical ingredients are Dixieland, waltz, marching music and boogie-woogie. The new album “Until the Sadness is Gone” also offers klezmer, ska, bombastic piano ballads and Las Vegas swing. The front cover shows a pond and the back the view up from the bottom of it. From above and from below. Ups and downs. Joy and sorrow. The Drum machine on “The End” is a Bontempi Keyboard that David found in a container once. Actually it isn’t the whole “Tummel”. Their drummer and accordion player isn’t featured. In the studio while recording the album, “Graycoated Morning” was recorded completely two times. The first version was almost clear when the band decided that it wasn’t good enough and they started the recording all over again. It is David who plays the violin on “Until the sadness is gone”. In the same section of the song he also plays on beer glasses whit a spoon. The joke in the studio was that it was a chimpanzee that played on the glasses. One should perhaps not reveal this but on the track “Soar Feet + Blisters” David plays it all. Instruments and singing. He recorded it at the rehearsal space and the band thought we should keep the intimate feeling he created. On “On All American Wind” there are also chimpanzees. “Let’s Not Fall Apart” was not supposed to be on the album. David didn’t really like it but Tomas Ebrelius, who made the strings on “On All American Winds” heard the demo version and just loved it and David finally agreed to record it and the track was all recorded on one late night. There is a demo version on Silverjacketgirl that is more than twice as long. It all begins slow and then rises. The problem was that it was too similar with the track “Things They Hold so Dear” from the first album so the band rearranged it. Both “Graycoated Morning” and “As You Fall” features a small wooden box that Magnus plays on with a stick. The wooden box was made by his father who is a carpenter. On “As You Fall” Magnus also plays on bike spokes with a drum stick at the end. |

Music & lyrics: David Fridlund Produced by Jens Lindgård & David & the Citizens in Gula studion (1) Produced by David Fridlund & Conny Frid at the rehearsal space on a digital portable recorder (2) Design: Jörgen Dahlqvist, Magnus Bjerkert, David Fridlund Cover painting: David Fridlund The Band: David Fridlund, Conny Fridh, Alexander Madsen, Mikael Carlsson, Magnus Bjerkert Extra musicians: The klezmer band Tummel & Jens Lindgård Originally “The End” was supposed to precede the album “Until the Sadness is Gone” but due to promotion circumstances it wasn’t released until 3 weeks after the album. That’s the reason why “The End” has catalogue number arcd.s 014 and the album arcd 015 although they where released in the reversed order. About the track The End David says: "Love that never dies and all thoughts racing through your head. A clear memory of someone crying in the cellar." The song was written all ready in 1999 but had never been played with the band. Actually the band had never played the song before it was recorded in the studio. But afterwards it was a standard opening track on their live shows. Some Germans thought that was strange. The song is characterized by the unholy mix of a furious old drum machine and the klezmer band Tummel. The single edit means, a little shorter drum machine in the beginning. Ain’t no Good News is one of the saddest songs ever recorded by the band. You find it only on this single. |

Music & lyrics: David Fridlund Produced by Jens Lindgård & David & the Citizens in Gula studion Design: Björn Eriksson, Magnus Bjerkert, David Fridlund Cover painting: David Fridlund The band: David Fridlund, Conny Fridh, Alexander Madsen, Mikael Carlsson, Magnus Bjerkert Extra musicians: Åsa Gjerstad The New Direction – EP was recorded in three sessions among with “Never a Bottom” and “Graycoated Morning”. The synth-a-like melody sound in the beginning of New Direction is the only place David & the Citizens has used their old original crappy stage piano in the studio, here with a lot of distortion and phaser and such goodies. David describes the songs like this: New Direction was written in half an hour in my kitchen. There's not very much to say about the song, except that it's a story about a man/woman who's stuck in life, not knowing where to go or what to do, hoping that somehow somebody will eventually come along to point out a new direction. Betina is a very important song for me, and it is also a very personal song, therefore I will not tell you all about this girl - her life and her whereabouts. But she had a rough time in her teens, with a really mean father, and me and some friends wanted to go to his house to beat him up. Luckily for him and for us, we never did that. There are a lot of lyrics for this one, but it is up to each one to decide in detail what Betina is really about. By the way, I really like this recording, with all the percussion and stuff... Glued to the Light is most of all a song about a dream I used to have as a little boy in Eskilstuna, Sweden, but it's also, I guess, my thoughts about that town and what happened to the kids I went to school with. I know what happened to some of them - and those were not sunshine-stories... Time is Nothing is inspired by "The Bell Jar", by Sylvia Plath. I read this book in the summer of 2001 and it really moved me... Time is Nothing is not about sleeping around (as you may think, reading only the first line of the lyrics...), but a story of this poor girl's brain, or to be more precise, a story of her struggling with her self to stay in command of her senses... |

Music & lyrics: Markus Krunegård Produced by Jari Haapalainen Mixed by Jari Haapalainen & Johan Gustavsson 1,2 Recorded by Jari Haapalainen & Johan Gustavsson in studio Gröndal, 3 recorded by Jari Haapalainen in Lennerstad, 4 recorded by Jari Haapalainen at Fylkingen Mastered by Henrik Jonsson at Polar Studios Sleeve design: Markus Krunegård & Andreas Paleologos The Band: Micke Fritz, David Nygård, Lars Skoglund, Markus Krunegård Extra musicians: Jari Haapalainen & Calle Olsson This is Laakso’s first release ever. We had a very hard time choosing the songs for this EP because there were so many good ones to choose from. In the end we decided that we had to save some goodies for the forthcoming album. We wanted to have one pop song on the EP – it became Long Beach – one longer slightly darker song – Out of Taste – one in Finnish – Vesi – and one acoustic one – Aino. In this way this EP really represent all the different sides of Laakso. The recording of this EP was done without the participation of one Laakso member, Jonathan Nilsson. Jonathan has been a member of Laakso since the beginning and has played an important role in the arrangements of these songs. The new member Lars Skoglund had just rehearsed these songs 2 times before these recordings where made. The EP was first called Long Beach Malaysia – EP to indicate that it is not the Swedish or Finnish beaches that is referred to, but we changed it (almost everywhere). |

Music & lyrics: Richard Shicke Produced by batti & Björns vänner in Gula studion Recorded by batti in Gula studion Mixed by batti & Björns vänner in Gula studion Design & photo: Melissa Henderson The Band: Conny Fridh, David Fridlund, Pelle Holmgren, Richard Schicke, Markus Slivka Extra musicians: Karin Sjöholm & Nisse Lidman Another one of those classic Adrian Recordings EP’s. This time the first one sung in Swedish. Björns vänner is a legendary band and this EP started it all. It took some time for Björns vänner to get started and this recording wasn’t meant to be released, it was just recorded as a demo. The band had always some kind of inbuilt impatience and restlessness so if not batti had recorded those tracks at this time, I’m not sure the band would have kept going. What a great loss it would have been. That might be so that we never told batti that the songs were to be released on record. Forgive us for taking advantage of your kindness. By many “Åkrar och himmel” is considered THE best song sung in Swedish ever. Singer Richard Schicke explains the songs like this. Stoppa porren A song about a love affair tainted by the influence of porn. Perceived by some people as being very political but it might as well just be a sweet love song. The last lines are inspired by the Billy Bragg song ”Sexuality”, I realised it only a few months ago. I wish the lines ”När ska du ta ditt ansvar, Jan” weren’t in there, they’re a bit stupid. The rest of it is really good, though. Kvar på film Some people want to be on television, other people regret that! Åkrar och himmel I wrote the melody using the words from a Daniel Clowes comic. ”Why I hate Christians”, I think it was called. The line ”Hey, Jesus! Come here and blow me” became the girlfriend saying ”…just hoping I’ll blow you!” which became ”Ska jag suga av dig nu?” The melody itself demanded a long, sentimental song with a story, I thought, so that’s why it is. I really like this song, the lyrics are good, and it just goes on and on. It’s a contemplation about longing as a perception, the search for constant values and contains unexpected independent girlfriend, jolly middle class youth on hippie vacation and a mother in love. Anna Vennergren Was written when I shared an apartment in Stockholm with three other guys and hadn’t slept with someone in two years. Apparently, there really is a girl called Anna Vennergren, but I just chose a name that sounded very ordinary, because I wanted the song to be REAL, yeah! A lot of people thought it was, and I’ve had to admit that I’ve never actually felt this way. And honestly, it would be a bit annoying if someone took months to answer when you asked them how they were. För Mias skull The lyrics are about not being able to talk properly to a person you are in love with. |

In the spring of 2002 David & the Citizens was on their first bigger tour. In spite of lack of time they needed two new songs to be recorded for the “Song Against Life – EP”. We could have released “Song Against Life” as a 2-track single but thought it would be unfair to people buying the record to just get one extra song. We found a gap between a gig in Halmstad the 30th of March and one in Hultsfred the 3rd of April and went to a studio outside Höör and Sösdala in the country in Skåne, Sweden, to record two songs – “Norway, Australia, Australia” (in the band known as “Länderna”) and “Eleven11”. We recorded almost everything live in the studio, which was the coziest studio we’ve ever been to. |

It received tremendously good reviews when it was released. It was recorded under extreme time pressure because Adrian Recordings could only afford 10 days in the studio and no more. David & the Citizens managed to record and mix it in 10 days with extraordinary good help from Jens Lindgård. Jens also plays guitar and sings in the Swedish pop band The Mopeds. Their biggest hit is “Lizard” from 1997. The cover is a drawing by David Fridlund and pictures two gas bells in Hjorthagen, Stockholm, which he made when he studied at Gerlesborgs art school. |

On the album the title has been shortened to “Pink Evening”. The second song is a home-made slightly melancholic song called “Of Black n´ Blue All Over” which can only be found on this single. “Pink Evening (Send Me Off...)” is a pop song about longing for another place with the bands characteristic little musical twist to it. The cover pictures Ekesjö Hovgård's old ruin outside Sävsjö and is a prepared photo by an old teacher in Hultsfred. In its original it is black and white but Magnus Bjerkert blued it a bit without asking first. |

The EP is for a long time sold out and it has become a collector’s item and cult release. The four songs represent very well the defragmented sound landscape of David & the Citizens. They here also introduce a lyrical theme that has followed the band all trough their career – the EP was almost called “The Family – EP” but then it stayed untitled. The untitledness is an important issue. The EP is not called “David & the Citizens” or “Untitled” it simply doesn’t have a name to refer to, although it sometimes goes under the name “The Cat – EP” or “ The Beppe – EP”. |

Music & lyrics: Lotta Wenglén Produced by Jocke Täck & Lotta Wenglén in Dundret Engineering & production of Chip Taylor’s vocals: Tony Mercadante Design: Jörgen Dahlqvist (23.se) Cover Photo: Urszula Striner Artist: Lotta Wenglén Musicians: Jocke Täck, Conny Städe, Jörgen Wernefeldt, Jonas Göransson, Åsa Gjerstad, Sabina Olsson, Joachim Leksell (of Dipper), Anders Nordgren, Eva Nilsson, Chip Taylor The debut album from Lotta received embracements from the press ("This year’s debut -already? Lotta Wenglén will definitely be a candidate for that reward”, Bengt Ola Mattsson, Östersunds Posten, 26/1-2001) and the success should have been even greater if not that tragic thing occurred around that time. The origin to this album begun with Lotta writing some songs of her own, until this point she had always played in a band. She gathered them and some older tracks and went into the, now late, Dundret Studio in Malmö with just a guitar and a glockenspiel. Later on she would be accompanied by some fellow musicians. This was to become her debut album under the artist name Lotta W. This was a time when Lotta felt a strong urge to leave the city to move to the countryside, which she did, and on the record you can hear this transition taking place in the different songs. The songs are, in spite of the time between the makings of them, in a way connected by one component, the longing for something else, something better. An illusion of how you wish things really should be, in your life, in your relationship, in you. The album is out of sale and could be hard to get a hold of. We could have made a new edition by that time, but unfortunately the rights to this album slipped both Adrian Recordings’ and Lotta’s way. |

More notable is that the songwriter for the band was a guy called Daniel Cirera, now a recognized artist on his own. He wasn’t in the band though. Lotta and Chip’s voices embrace each other in this sweet melancholic contemplation. It’s a truly beautiful song and one of the finest we have released. Music & lyrics: Rikard Karlsson except (7) Music & lyrics: Magnus Bjerkert (7) Released: 1999 Re-released: 19 feb 2001 Produced by Jocke Täck & Sharif in Dundret Design: Jörgen Dahlqvist (23.se) & Sharif Cover art: Leif Holmstrand The Band: Magnus Bjerkert, Leif Holmstrand, John Bjerkert, Rikard Karlsson, Stefan Nordmark Extra musicians: Mårten Olsson, Åsa Gjerstad, John Guslén, Jörgen Wernefeldt, Marcus Cato, Emil Heiling The recording of Adrian and Sharif’s first album took place in Malmö in 1999 under extreme pressure. All the members of the band dealt with personal problems of different character and the sessions were almost chaotic sometimes. Lots of alcohol was drunk but there was also times of still, sole beauty. The album turned out this way and that’s probably the only way it could have sounded. The music is from the darker region of the mind without being dull. The melodies are shaped to focus on the reflective lyrics and when you think you understand everything a violin or a trumpet undefines your impression. Sharif knew by that time who Mark Kozelek and Nick Drake were but they hadn’t forgot the alternative 80´s with bands like Sonic Youth and Einstürzende Neubauten. Other favorites by that time were The Velvet Underground, Tindersticks and Eric’s Trip. If you then add some jazz drumming and some soul voice improvising, you should be able to guess what the album sounds like. |
